Introducing the "Quaranta" in 2023 was a discreet but real challenge for Panerai: returning to 40 mm without betraying the soul of a house that has long made its large cases a signature. The PAM01371 achieves this with natural ease. The cushion-shaped stainless steel case retains the crown-locking device, that characteristic metal rib that has distinguished a Luminor at first glance for decades. But where historical models imposed themselves on the wrist, the Quaranta sits there — confidently, without excess. The lacquered bezel reflects light with elegant restraint, and the sapphire case back reveals the workings of a movement that Panerai has not sought to hide. The white dial, luminous without being garish, is structured by baton indexes and precisely drawn silver hands, enhanced by touches of lume that recall the Florentine house's military and maritime origins.
