Rolex, which has jealously guarded the 36-millimeter case diameter, launched the second enlarged model in 2009, following the DateJust II of 2008. With a movement diameter increased by 2.5 millimeters and equipped with the Cal.3136 with Rolex's proprietary Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorber, thus improving magnetic resistance and shock resistance compared to previous models. It is a particularly individual model, being the only DateJust model in history not to have a Jubilee bracelet, and possessing the thickest bezel of any model in history.
