A highly complex sports timepiece, a masterpiece of technical prowess designed for everyday use and for all situations, this is the latest achievement in Richard Mille's tireless quest for innovation,
the new rm 65-01.
The culmination of some five years of development, this automatic split-seconds chronograph is the most complex timepiece ever to emerge from the Richard Mille workshops. This model fully embodies the brand's technical approach thanks to the combination of several additional functions, a highly specific architecture, and a very high-end aesthetic. In short, a fabulous mechanical watchmaking challenge that required patience, technical expertise, and perseverance.
RMAC4 caliber
Self-winding skeleton movement with hours, minutes, seconds at 6 o'clock, date, split-seconds chronograph with 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock, function selector, quick winding and variable geometry rotor.
power reserve
Approximately 60 hours (± 10%).
Actual power reserve results depend on the degree of use of the chronograph functions.
grade 5 titanium plate and bridges
The baseplate and bridges are made of grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant, and remarkably rigid alloy that allows the gear train to operate effortlessly. The alloy is composed of 90% grade 5 titanium, 6% aluminum, and 4% vanadium. This combination further enhances the material's mechanical properties, which explains its widespread use in the aerospace, aircraft, and automotive industries. The baseplate of the RMAC4 caliber has been optimized to achieve an extremely low strength-to-weight ratio.
The skeletal baseplate and bridges have undergone intensive and comprehensive validation testing to optimize their strength capabilities.
split-second chronograph
The modern architecture of this movement allows for a coherent and rational arrangement of its constituent elements, avoiding unnecessary overlaps and enabling the best possible use of functions through technical solutions.
The RMAC4 caliber is equipped with the latest generation split-seconds mechanism developed by Richard Mille engineers. The 6-column wheel ensures optimized simultaneity of movements, maximum locking of functions, and greater durability of settings.
The chronograph was also subjected to a battery of merciless tests to demonstrate its proper functioning in all situations, from simulated shocks and drops to accelerated 10-year aging phases for all its functions, including water resistance and resistance to magnetic fields tests.
quick-winding mechanism
The quick-winding mechanism was developed to complement automatic and crown winding. It allows the barrel to be quickly re-wound if the watch stops. Pressing the pusher at 8 o'clock allows the barrel to fully re-wind. This function is ideal for quickly re-winding the watch if it has not been worn for a long period.
This highly practical function, described as "very fun" by Richard Mille engineers, was particularly difficult to develop due to the significant torque transfer. During aging tests, the function was activated thousands of times.
high-frequency pendulum with variable inertia
Beating at 5Hz (36,000 vph), the rapid inertia balance offers greater reliability in the event of shocks, assembly and disassembly of the movement, and also guarantees better chronometric results over a long period of time, maintaining more precise time. This new type of Richard Mille balance can measure accurately to 1/10th of a second, ideal for a split-seconds chronograph watch in sporting conditions.
The regulator index is eliminated and more precise and repeatable adjustment is possible thanks to 4 small adjustable weights located directly on the scale.
variable geometry rotor
The rm 65-01 uses a newly designed variable geometry to optimize rotor winding motion.
This Richard Mille exclusive allows the winding of the mainspring to be effectively adapted to the user's activity level, in sporting or non-sporting environments.
By adjusting the weight to three positions, the rotor's inertia is modified to speed up the winding process during leisurely arm movements, or to slow it down during sporting activities. This invention allows the movement's winding mechanism to be optimized and customized to suit the owner's lifestyle.
