In the previous generation, the Daytona transformed from a tool watch into a status symbol. In 2000, it underwent a new evolution with the introduction of Cal.4130, Rolex's first in-house chronometer movement. After 5 years of development, the Cal.4130 inherited the excellent foundations of the Cal.3100 of its time, and the adoption of the vertical clutch chronometer mechanism eliminated hand jitters when starting the chronometer and significantly improved accuracy during chronometer operation. Furthermore, by utilizing the space created by a compact vertical clutch, the barrel was enlarged, achieving an impressive 72-hour power reserve. This generation, which continued to evolve with various variations over the past 20 years, can be considered to have established the Daytona's reputation thanks to its exceptional performance.
